TITLE OF THE WORKSHOP:

FACT-CHECKING: CHALLENGES FOR JOURNALISTS

This online seminar will tackle the challenges fact-checking raises for journalists. It will bring together specialists working on topics related to disinformation and the verification of truth. Presentations will focus on historical approaches and geopolitical stakes of fact-checking in Europe and the US (Divina Frau-Meigs, Joseph Beaudreau, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, France), audience perspectives (Angeliki Monnier, Céline Ségur, Université de Lorraine, France), pitfalls of fact-checking and stakes for journalists (Jérémie Nicey, Laurent Bigot, Université de Tours, France), controversies in the media and lessons to be learnt (François Allard-Huver, Université de Lorraine), trends and fact-checking monitoring in Europe, as well as opportunities for researchers and practitioners (Maria Giovanna Sessa, EU DisinfoLab). The workshop is mainly intended for journalists, students in journalism and those interested in journalism and the verification of information. Each conference will not exceed 45min, and will be followed by a 30-min discussion with participants. Working language: English.
